Persevere.
This is the word that Griffin used when I told him he needed to give the Boxcar Children Books a break and read his library books before they were due. He told me that he wanted to Persevere.
I looked at him and said, “Do you know what that means?” (I might add that I was thinking in my head…can I explain it if he asks?). He said, “To finish what I started.” Well who can argue with that! I guess I will take the library books back.
I actually looked it up to see the exact definition and he was more dead on than I realized. The official definition said, “to continue a course of action, etc. in spite of difficulty, opposition, etc.”
I guess I was the “difficulty, opposition” that Griffin was referring to.
Keeping me on my toes, this one.
PS-On the other end of the pendulum, I was trying to get Grady to quit playing with Mason outside of his school yesterday and I said, “C’mon Grady, mommy needs to go to Liquor Barn so we can get Aunt Linda & Uncle Tommy’s Rum.” Grady then spontaneously broke into a song and dance. He was singing, “I like to drink beer, I like to drink beer…I like to drink beer.” Luckily, Mason’s mom has a great sense of humor.
